To inspire and share good things

season1 is about friendship; presenting short interviews with my dear friends.

Tricia Carey

Tell us about yourself and what you do.

I am Director of Global Business Development for Denim at Lenzing, a wood-based cellulosic fiber producer.  Together with the TENCEL™ Denim team, we educate, inspire and equip the supply chain and brands to use TENCEL™ Lyocell, TENCEL™ X REFIBRA™, and TENCEL™ Modal in denim applications.  We do not just make fiber; we connect people, products, and processes to lower the environmental footprint of the denim and bring the modern definition of denim to consumers.

What do you love about denim and fashion?

What I love about fashion is the fusion of art and business.  Fashion is an expression of feelings. Over the past 20 years with TENCEL™ Fibers, I have been in various segments of the industry, but what I love about denim is the people!  The passionate players in the denim industry, many who we highlight on Carved in Blue blog, make the denim industry what it is today.  There is something different about denim mixing the old ways with new technology in endless combinations.

Considering your daily routines and your role in the fashion industry, what do you do for the planet?

I am trying to eliminate single use plastic from my daily routine by using recyclable water bottles and reusable bags.  I also have a personal no-shop January to reduce my consumption after the Holidays

Tell us something which we don’t know about you.

When I first moved to NYC in the early 1990’s I lived in a Catholic women’s residence in Chelsea, similar to the old TV show Bosom Buddies.  I had a tiny room with this amazing view of the Empire State building and a rooftop deck.  It was not easy to find roommates or housing pre-internet days, but I was determined to make my way in NYC even if I had to make some sacrifices.

We all love traveling, share with us your secret/favorite place.

I am very fortunate to have been in many cities around the world.  But my favorite place happens to be close to home at the beach in Avalon, New Jersey.  I have great memories there with the kids growing up and days with friends.  Long walks on the beach and biking everywhere, I find that is the place where I can fully recharge.

And last but not least, your all-time favorite book and song?

Favorite book is Search Inside Yourself by Chade-Meng Tan

One of my top played songs is Adventure of a Lifetime, by Coldplay.  I saw Chris Martin perform this song in NYC and it was beyond exhilarating.
